Ambleside, Saint Mary The Virgin
The
organ at Saint Mary The Virgin, Ambleside, generates a lot of
interest given that is one of few surviving Hope-Jones instruments.
Built in 1898 it is an interesting pipe organ, sharing
characteristics with the theatre organ.
The Diaphone and Tibia Clausa were both inventions of Robert Hope-Jones, the latter of which is a staple of theatre organs. Hope-Jones is widely regarded as the inventor of the theatre organ and merged his company with Wurlitzer in 1914, shortly before ending his life.
